Billy Cart Challenge

More than 800 students converged on Eastern Creek Raceway to race
billycarts that they'd made in the classroom....and they call this
modern learning.
The day was organised by the NRMA with the idea that the students would
learn about road safety and how to design a vehicle.
The vehicles are incredibly designed and complex - hardly the box and
lawnmower wheels of yester-year.
The elements of science, motor design and road safety awareness for the
kids involved in this project must have been huge.
This initiative allowed school students to build and design “their own set of wheels”, then race their billycarts (where one student would push behind and one would sit and steer). There were two events: one on a small go-kart track and a “standing start 50m there-and-back’”sprint down the main straight.
